Look How It Comes

We rode down the divided highway, windows open, the whistling whoosh of cars meeting us as they passed from the other side. Suddenly, across the stretch of median, came the din of a thousand birds in avid conversation. We were jolted by the sound, out of our humdrum skins and into a world of royal green tresses and blue inky skies, where mother nature ruled.

We screeched to a halt, our wide eyes and open mouths replaced by a frenzy to be nearer to this magic. We parked on the shoulder, half in the grass, and ran across the median to the awaiting trees. The birds, the objects of our desire, ran off, too shy to receive our gawking.

As we lingered to explore, Lady Nature, in all her glory, we fell into a different kind of magic. The magic of two improvisationalists caught in the moment.
